Well now! Today IS v. exciting as the first episode of my new podcast The Throne Rangers drops right into your collective laps.
It was about time I did something with this “Keeping Up With the Royals” hobby, and so I sent a random message to fellow enthusiast Beth from Baby Mac a little while ago and asked her did she want to be the Pomp to my Ceremony?
Not only did she say yes, she also told me she was ACTUALLY GOING TO WINDSOR TO COVER THE ROYAL WEDDING.
Dead set. She was definitely the right person for these royal-watching podcast shenanigans.
In episode 1, we cover off the recent Royal Foundation Forum, our distaste for the media moniker “The Fab Four”, The Queen unveiling a plaque at the International Something-Something, and the rumour that Meghan has in fact had her hen do at a D-A-I-Y-E spa already, a titbit that raises my eyebrows about as far as they can go. A hen do so early? Without her mum? We smell a rat.
(Turns out the media are now backpedalling and calling it a “bridal shower”… not the hen do. It’s too much to hope they’ll stop reporting rumour as fact, yeah?)
Lovely Liz visited the International Maritime Organisation Headquarters to mark the 70th Anniversary of the adoption of the International Maritime Organisation Convention, where she unveiled a plaque and looked at this fancy boat.
Our mate Cath has been extraordinarily busy, with the naming of two new patronages (Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and Nursing Now), the opening of new Place2Be headquarters, the Commonwealth Fashion Exchange, visiting primary schools, curating an exhibition of Victorian Photography, and of course joining the chorus of chair-swingers at the Royal Foundation Forum, the first time William, Cath, Harry and Meghan have all appeared at an official engagement together.
Our Duke was also photographed watching small children do things with parachutes tied to eggs.
We also cover the fashions worn, Charles and Camilla’s Travel Diary of their upcoming Commonwealth Games Australia tour (and a rumour about where they might be staying for the Games, prompting me to put my stalking hat on), what royal reporters are trying to have Twitter do to stem the tide of Meghan-centred racism, and Camilla’s essay for The Express about the importance of reading to children.
On the Royal Wedding front, we chat about the news from Windsor about the parade route and how the viewing spots will be allocated, (and this is the walkthrough of the route that we discussed), that Meghan was getting baptised this month, and the possibility of a Spice Girls reunion at the reception, which sent Beth into dizzying heights.
We also cover Meghan and Harry’s visit to Edinburgh, and my devotion to this tartan Burberry coat:
We throw back to teen Harry’s teen embarrassment to be hanging with the Spice Girls, and discuss the rumour that Ginger Spice pinched Prince Charles’ bum, which she denies, leaving us all in a state of disarray.
We also loved:
- Fergie and her penchant for Wordswag, celebrating Jack and Eugenie’s engagement announcement with a proliferation of inspirational quotes superimposed on blurry photos of the couple, cementing herself as just another over-excited daggy mum like the rest of us.
- Also what even is this?! Her Twitter is a goldmine.
- Everyone’s outfits at the last Commonwealth service, Kate’s grey ensemble getting a going-over, and our predictions on what Meghan will wear to her first one (which is today!)
- A confused discussion about Her Maj’s modesty loop
- Whether or not you can tour Clarence House (you can, every August)
- Charlotte’s first day of nursery photos
- Getting stuck into checking out the Kensington Palace Apartment 1A sitting room photos of the Obama visit to scrutinise the soft furnishings.
And I’m just gonna leave you here with this totally adorable letter from Liz to her Granny.

Episode 2 will be available on March 26, and will cover all the latest royal wedding news, the visits to the Royal Academy of the Arts, Birmingham for International Women’s Day, the Royal Commonwealth service, and the last minute announcement of Kate’s appearance at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade at Cavalry Barracks, throwing my educated guess about when she will start maternity leave COMPLETELY OFF.
