The Throne Rangers Podcast: For Big Fans of the Royal Fam

A couple of fans of the Royal Fam discuss the history, glamour, drama, and mystery of the British Royal Family from the perspective of two enthusiasts Down Under.

Bloggers Stacey Roberts and Beth Macdonald share a deep admiration for Queen Liz, and a healthy fascination with the rest of the British Royal Family and so, as the world geared up for a royal wedding extravaganza, a collab was born.

Grab a Darjeeling or a gin and Dubonnet and join us every fortnight for a discussion of the goings-on of the Monarchy, and whether or not we think Kate ever has to run a nit comb through Charlotte’s hair.

Episode 0: Who are the Throne Rangers?

Episode 1: The Royal Family’s Got the Blues

Kate has found herself with a penchant for high necks and long sleeves these days, Meghan loves a belted wrap dress… and they have both busted them out in several shades of blue in the last couple of weeks. Blue! Does it mean Kate’s dropping a hint? *spoiler* UM, NO.

In the first episode of The Throne Rangers podcast, Stacey and Beth cover off the recent Royal Foundation Forum, our distaste for the media moniker “The Fab Four”, The Queen unveiling a plaque at the International Something-Something, and the rumour that Meghan has in fact had her hen do at a D-A-I-Y-E spa already, a titbit that raises Stacey’s eyebrows about as far as they can go. A hen do so early? Without her mum? We smell a rat.

Episode 2: Right Royal Roundup

It has been an extraordinarily busy fortnight for the Buckingham Palace clan – kicking off with the Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey and finishing up with Kate making an unexpected cameo at several events prior to popping her feet up for a rest before Cambridge Baby #3 arrives!

Just… let’s not mention the mint outfit.

We’ve hats galore, Haz in a jumper, Beth’s distaste for the Abbey floral arrangements, how soon is too soon to get married, royal wedding cake news, and what happens with the royal family over Easter. It’s a doozy.

ALSO: Don’t miss Beth’s very exciting announcement here! So jealous.

Episode 3: The Royal Easter: Windsor, Charles and Camilla in Oz, and Kate does the Shopping

This week, Beth’s quite taken with Her Maj rocking bold black accents on her outfits, (which is a vast 180 to how we feel about Meghan’s bootcut jeans. What even), the existence of nosegays, Phillippa Craddock being named the Royal Wedding florist, and Princess Anne’s feathery cap, god bless her.

We also discuss a breakdown of the royal wedding costs (thousands of sauso rolls will set you back), Kate down the supermarket, handmade trumpets, Phil and his hip, our thoughts about Haz and Meg’s new royal titles, and Prince Charles and The Cling Wrap Incident.

Also – by the next episode, we COULD HAVE A ROYAL BABY on our hands. Excite!

The Throne Rangers Episode 4: The Royal Family does CHOGM

Oh what a week it was in Royal Watcher Land! Happy 92nd Birthday Queen Liz! The Commonwealth Couple Haz and Meg get trotted out for EVERYTHING! Funny facials and tiaras at the CHOGM dinner! (tbh we’d be making those eyes at Justin Trudeau too, given the chance). THAT cape dress! Are we breaking royal fashion rules with handbags?! Shoes that fit!

What an utter delight.

Of course, this week has produced a royal heir, Baby Cambridge #3 – which happened after we recorded this episode, forgive us. Next ep will be a bumper baby episode as we cover off Kate’s epic effort, and say goodbye to Beth who will be winging her way to Windsor to cover the Royal Wedding.

Episode 5: Royal Weddings Babies Anything

Beth and Stacey are back from an unscheduled hiatus (BUT BETH WENT TO WINDSOR FOR THE ROYAL WEDDING OK) to chat all things Prince Louis, royal post-partum recovery, bridal hair tendrils, favourite bits of the wedding (+1 to Zara’s response to Bishop Michael Curry), and all the goss from the grounds of Windsor Castle.

Episode 6: Royal Birthdays all Round

Trooping of the Colour saw the Royal Fam out in all their glory, including Meghan’s first balcony appearance for the birthday flypast. Huzzah! Our Phil turned 97, Savannah Phillips got savage, Meghan brought her shoulders, and Her Maj was papped getting up close and personal with flowers, artwork, and horses.

Episode 7: The Royals Have Been Out in Force

From Ascot to Dublin, Cheshire to St James’s Palace, the BRF have been out everywhere doing all the things.

We also wish happy birthdays to Georgie, Camilla, and Diana, Louis a happy christening (is that a thing?!), and our congratulations go to Her Maj for her epic fashion diplomacy Trump brooch troll. If that’s legit, we give it five stars.

Also: we call bullshit on the current reasoning for why Meghan wears shoes that are too big, and we have discussed at length this month’s fashion choices from the comfort of clothes we wouldn’t be caught dead in public in.

Episode 8: The One Where We Struggle With Pronunciation

All is quiet on the royal front while our faves are on summer holidays, but that doesn’t stop us discussing that kiss at the polo, Nacho in navy, Mustique rum punch, where the hell the Isle of Wight is, and our savvy instagram sleuthing of behind-the-scenes photos of the rich and aristocratic.

Episode 9: Back to Royal Reality

Summer holidays are over for much of the royal fam (the Queen is still in Balmoral for fly fishing and walks among the heather for a bit longer) and Meghan is back in a black pant suit.

This week, Beth and Stacey tackle the pregnancy dress, Charles eating chutney, Harry’s fondness for Halle Berry, back-to-school shopping, and whether turned-around books really are an interior design trend or a sign of deep paranoia.

Episode 10 – Royal Wedding 2: Back in the Chapel

Eugenie is married! Meghan wore a coat! Fergie pulled a hundred and two different faces, and both of us give the wedding a full five stars. So much to discuss, from the flowers to the frocks and the green, seconds-from-a-spew groom.

We also celebrate the triumphant return of Our Cath from maternity leave after the birth of precious baby Louis, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex in Sussex, and William’s trip to Africa.

Top of mind is the Duke and Duchess of Thirst Go Down Under tour, which has kicked off with the early morning arrival of Haz and Megs in Sydney, before dropping the MASSIVE BOMBSHELL THAT THEY MADE A BABY! It’s all happening, and you can hear it all here. With us.

Episode 12: Celebrity Meghan

Did Meghan have a baby shower or something? We wouldn’t know, we didn’t hear a thing.

Between the New York jaunt, Meghan’s dodgy dad, and her trip with Harry to Morocco, you’ll have to forgive us for finding ourselves with a full half hour of Meghan news this episode. But we do also cover off Bill and Cathy in Northern Ireland (and a very cute story from a gal on the ground), the George/Archie mystery, MIA Charles, Her Maj in florals, and what everyone thinks of Mr Clooney piping up recently with his opinion. Cheers, mate.

We also made a very Tarantino-like short film (no blood or John Travolta sadly) about our big city shenanigans attempting to hunt down the couple of the moment on their royal tour of Australia, which you can view on YouTube.

Episode 13: Royal #Gowngate

What was the deal with Cath’s McQueen dress? Why was Meghan dressed like a nurse? Is Her Maj’s hand bruise the sign of something more sinister? What did Stacey say that had to be bleeped out and had Beth all in a tizzy?

In this episode of high drama, we take on your listener questions, discuss what happens when fashion goes rogue, and have clearly no idea how old Prince Edward is, nor the date of his birth. Happy birthday anyway, old chap, for … sometime last week.

Episode 14: Episode 14: Get your Ferg On

The households have split! The Queen had a date with Kate! Meg and Henry went on a babymoon, and there is a literal war of the roses as Kate’s Chelsea Flower Show submission goes head to head with … somebody else’s.

Oh – and the last three minutes are cut off on this episode, we do apologise. We were talking about how much the Queen Mum loved a tipple, but sadly it’s been lost to the ether. Just know she did. She really did.

We end up on a deep chat about Andrew and Fergie and their “are-they-or-aren’t-they” rumours, to which we both say: “duh”. They never really even broke up (hate to break it to you, Johnny Bryan).

Episode 15: What the hell is going on?

Hello and welcome to RUMOURTOWN, where the most insane stories are getting a run in the press – leaving us with permanent side-eye. In fact, have a headache right now.

Africa! Easter avoidance! Cheating! Let’s talk about how it’s all basically bullshit.

We also cover off listener questions: who is our favourite royal and why? What’s our favourite piece of royal memorabilia? How do we really feel about Meghan scrolling through Insta? How is Harper’s Bazaar getting all the Sussex scoops?

Also: we are on megababywatch. Sending good birthing vibes to the mama-to-be, we hope you’re getting stuck into the perineum massage in anticipation.

Episode 16: All About Archie

Ummmm the baby is here! And that’s basically all we can talk about. MASTER ARCHIE HARRISON MOUNTBATTEN-WINDSOR YOU ARE SUPER CYUUUUTE and your Aussie aunties are very happy you’ve arrived.

Three cheers for Our Megs! Welcome to the mamahood club.

Did anything else happen this fortnight? It must have ? I think we spare five minutes for it.

Episode 17: Royal Summer

The sun is shining, and (among other things,) Cath has planted a garden, Her Maj has been at ROYALASCOT and Meghan was back for Trooping with some extra bling on her ring finger.

What do we think about it all? Pull up a pew and we’ll tell ya! With no holds barred, as usual.

Listener questions this week have us musing on the subjects of abdication, the royal foundation split, and whether or not we think Our Meg feels left out of a busy, sunshiny royal June schedule.

Episode 20: The Harry and Meghan Show

So. The lawsuits. The Africa Tour. ARCHIE. There’s been so much to discuss on the royal front that the only thing we could do is tackle it one at a time.

Welcome to the Meghan and Harry Show. Where we discuss that documentary, those legal proceedings, those never-ending belted shirtdresses, THAT BABY.
