And isn’t that lucky, because apart from brief surfacing, I’ve not left it for a good 10 days.
The flu has been very hard to shake, with the littlest and me the hardest hit. I think I have abs now from all the coughing (the coughing oh jesus the coughing), and even though I’ve had it this long, I am still tired and my lungs feel heavy.
Everybody’s “first fire of the season” instagram posts give me the same green feels they do every year, but never fear, my Netflix version comes to the rescue. It is absolutely not at all like a real fire but it is like a real fire so here we are. I also like the Christmas one that softly plays carols over the spitting and cracking of the fire. It’ll do.
It’s well and truly autumnal now, anyway. That perfect evening light, the multicoloured trees (outside my bedroom window is every shade of green, maroon, orange, yellow, and brown) and some of the London Plane Trees have lost everything they had. They’re hilarious, one day they’re fully green, three days later they’re bare as. It gets out of hand very, very quickly.
So I don’t really know or remember what’s happened this first week of the holidays. I know I recorded a podcast (and then worried endlessly about it because I literally couldn’t make my brain work or string a sentence together), I’ve spent many sleepless nights (coughing, kid vomit/moaning, trying not to cough and getting the watery eyes/basically convulsing with the effort, general pain and malaise), I’ve watched Cracker, I’ve watched Morse, I’ve watched Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, I’ve watched Grandma Da’thy and her Mississippi goodness, I’ve listened to Ruth Rendell audiobooks, I’ve had epsom salt baths… it’s all been a bit of a blur.
Fingers crossed next week everything will be looking a bit more positive. We’re going seaside for easter and we’ll all be feeling a hell of a lot better. I even managed to mop the floor and bake a cake yesterday, so surely the end is nigh.
Oh except we’re out of wine.
The light’s nice though. Did I mention the light?
