Freckle Fart from KMart
I admit, it doesn’t take me much to get excited about something if I know there is tea involved. I need very little excuse to have friends over and break out the (almost-good-but-if-you-break-it-I-won’t-break-you) china, bake some goodies and have a little party in the sunshine.
With that in mind, when I was invited to have Baker’s Delight cater my next gathering with their new lemon sweets range AND provide me with a beautiful tea set with which to woo my guests, it was hard to say no. The tea set from T2 truly is divine – as are the new lemon swirls we were trying out.
oh yeah baby!
I’m a little bit partial to baked goods from time to time, but don’t enjoy your usual chocolate or strawberry-flavoured things. Caramel I can come at in a pinch, but if you have lemon-flavoured something I’ll most definitely indulge. I adore lemon curd and it is just such a wonderful partner to soft bread and cream cheese frosting. Now I hate getting sticky and that oozing deliciousness above is full of stick, but that didn’t stop me. I just figured next time I could use a fork, like a lay-dee.
They were warmed just a little bit and the cream cheese frosting melted ever-so-slightly into a gorgeous puddle. Sigh.
The individual Gourmet Scrolls were so sweet in their little brown cases, and a big hit with this beautiful babe:
And if tea parties aren’t cool enough, I have eight $10 vouchers to give away to one reader. Buy eighty bucks worth of lemon swirls, or perhaps just buy yourself some nice bread each week for a couple of months.
All’s you gotta do is tell me which four people you’d invite to a tea party at your place.
Me? I’d have Stephen Fry, Hilary Clinton, Ricky Gervais and Roseanne Barr.
Competition closes Wednesday November 28 at 5pm Queensland time, where I will choose a winner based on which answer is the most interesting. Please make sure you’re contactable. And good luck!
*disclaimer: Baker’s Delight provided the scrolls and gifted me the T2 teapot and teacups, along with eight $10 vouchers. I provided the general awesomeness and medium frivolity.
Bess Georgette says
Oooooh! Those lemon scrolls look so perfect with your yellow teacup.
Who would I invite to a tea party at my place? Hmmmm… well I would definitely invite you because I think we’d have a hoot (a fancy tea time hoot!) together, Tina Fey (to keep the hoot going and because I adore her), my Twitter friend Zohar, in Israel, because we always talk about having tea together, and… Daniel Craig. A lady needs something to look at! 😉
Sarah Morgan says
I would invite Stephen Merchant, Dave Grohl, Dave Matthews and Bette Midler…what a great tea party. I love that tea set. x
Julie Roberts says
Dawn French – she’s warm, funny and boxed set of Vicar of Dibley got me through a hard time. I’d like to make her a cup of tea to say thank you.
Eden from Edenland – her writing is so powerful I’d love to hear what she says in person.
The Queen – she’s seen so much change from such a unique perspective and has known all the power players. I’d love to hear her perspective on social change and what she thinks is important in life.
My sister – I don’t get to see her anywhere as much as I’d like and she’s awesome.
Alimacmac says
I would invite Chrissie Swan, my bestie Kylie because she is hilarious too, and YOU!! Haha!! Happy Day!!
Reannon Hope says
What a super cute tea set!
To my little tea party I’d invite my lovely friend Lyd who lives on the other side of the country & I miss her too much.
I’d invite my friend taryn cause she would wear a pretty frock & her & Lyd have never met & I think they’d like each other.
Lastly I’d invite my 10 year old son Isaac because he loves tea more than anyone I know & I think he’d be sad to miss out on an actual tea party. Plus he’d drink more tea & eat less sweets leaving more for me!!
Vicky Finch says
My four soul sisters, Sam, my oldest friend, who has known me for for then half my life, Sharon, who is always there physically when I need her, no matter what, Karen, who keeps it real, and Anna, who has a heart bigger then a mountain. … These four women keep me going.

A tea party requires a touch of class and a lot of laughs – so my tea party would comprise of me, Princess Catherine – for class and style advice, Robin Williams – for the belly laughs, Joanna Lumley – for some fab laughs and lastly Daniel Craig – classy accent and a bit of eye candy 🙂

I would invite my Grandmother (who is bound to bring food anyway), who I haven’t seen in years but is my super duper role model, and as many poverty-stricken kids as I can possibly fit into my suitcase, boot, arms, backpack etc. who have never tasted tasty baked goods before…
Patricia Featherstone says
Now..I would invite Russell Brand (for a good old ribald laugh or two..not to mention the eye candy..LOL) Garth Brooks to serenade us all …not to mention the eye candy. Curtis Stone to whip us up a few more yummy treats and not to mention yet more eye candy and then I guess I had better have my gorgeous husband along as well to keep me in line and to add even more eye candy to the whole event..Bwhahahah! Sounds like a really yummy day to me all round really 🙂
Jemima Longstocking says
What lemony goodness! And that tea set- be still my beating heart! If the guests don’t have to be living I would invite my Pop (who passed away when I was 3)- I have been told many hilarious stories of him and his drinking antics (and he did love his cuppa’s); my two year old son who loves finishing off the last 2 mouthfuls of my chamomile tea in his very own mug (complete wiht pinky finger extended!) and to entertain my son so I can sip tea in peace I would invite Peter Combe (the wonderful kids singer from the 80’s & 90’s of ‘Newspaper Mama’ fame) and last of all Bryce Courtenay- my favourite author.
Three Quarters Full says
I’d invite David Attenborough because he must be such an interesting man and I’d love to listen to him talk about some of his adventures, Stephen Fry because he’s smart, funny and slightly inappropriate, Sarah Millican who is just hysterical & Channing Tatum (just to look at, I don’t want him to speak) because with all that brain food I’d better feed my eyes as well.
Oh and how yummy are those lemon swirls? Love them.

Ciara says
I’d pick Nigella Lawson, Billy Connelly, David Kosh & Michelle Obama
gnomeangel says
Do they have to be alive or can they be reanimated for the event? I’m going to go with the reanimated option because I think that might be a little more varied – although I do worry that we’d probably spend most of the tea party talking about how they came to be reanimated and what’s changed with the world and what an iPhone is… but still…
Jane Austen – I’d have to ask her if Colin Firth is what/who she was thinking of when she wrote the character of Mr Darcy. Also I’d want to show her the pond scene (over and over again… the tea party might get a little derailed at this point…)
Oscar Wilde – I’d love to see if he’s as funny in person as he is in his writings and legend. (He may also appreciate seeing the pond scene…)
Stephen Fry – Think it might be interesting to see the reaction he has to coming in contact with Oscar Wilde. Also might make the more intellectual of the party feel like they’ve got someone to talk to while I’m watching the pond scene… (although he might also enjoy said pond scene…) Also he might be able to explain the iPhone better than I would.
Colin Firth – I’d accidentally spill some (cold) tea on him to see if the pond scene is as good in person as it is on the telly.
Kellie says
I too am partial to a British comedian, and rather than choosing between Jimmy Carr and Ricky Gervais – I’d just have them both.
Third guest is Mark Wahlberg. If he isn’t overly witty or able to hold a conversation, I’d ask him to hush and take his shirt off.
Lastly, I’d ask you. Because you would have to bring the baby and I would like to smoosh her please.
Lauren says
Paul McCartney- an inspiration as a vegetarian, plus I love his music, so after tea maybe he could play us a tune 😉
Barack Obama- Some one with so much charisma is bound to unite the guests in witty conversation, even if he cann’t unite the democrats and republicans on what to do about the debt crisis
Claire Dane- Absolutely love her in Homeland plus she comes across as so intelligent I would love to see what she adds to the conversation
Finally my husband, because lets face it, if I had all this awesome people over and locked him out he would be pretty upset, not to mention how upset he would be about missing out on all the awesome food. Plus it would be an added bonus to rehash the awesome time we would have with such amazing guests for years to come.

BARAK OBAMA for insight and inspiring conversation…
And the outspoken CATHERINE DEVENEY! There’s interesting oration!

I would have to invite your tea set, they are just delightful.
I think you said we had to invite people so I’d have another tea party and invite the stars of Red Dwarf:
The Cat along with his wardrobe so he could change every five minutes and give me another set of clothes to ogle over.
Dave Lister so I could give him something that doesn’t have curry. I might have to hand him the makings of a curry and see what happens.
Kryten so he could do my washing and ironing while we talk
Holly/Hill so I could watch that deadpan face as they crack many jokes.
As there’s only four invitees allowed I’d have to leave Arnold Rimmer off the list which is such a pity (not) but it’d be awesome to have the actor who plays him, Chris Barrie, pity I’m only allowed four. Actually, Kryten’s not technically a person as he’s a mechanoid so I’d definitely invite Chris Barrie and watch him do impersonations. And another actually, Holly/Hilly are computers so not technically people and as The Cat is a cat and not technically a person I think I could invite someone else as well so I’d have to go all out and invite Gerald Durrell, I’ve recently seen pictures of him as a young man and he’s so dreamy I’d love to meet him and be swept off my feet.

I’d go with Freddie Mercury – a legend in his time and I have grown up listening to Queen since I was in my mother’s tummy 🙂
Heston Blumenthal – he could bring along some dainty sandwiches and hopefully a surprise treat or two (hopefully not the meat fruit!!:)
Candace Nelson – she is the founder of Sprinkles Cupcakes and I had the pleasure of trying her s’more cupcake in NYC and it was the best cupcake I have ever consumed in my 26 years of living!
I also bring my mum as due to the distance we live apart I do not get to see her as much as I’d like and I think she deserves a special tea party 🙂
Wendy Daniels says

Hey Veggie mama, I am about to graduate (huzzah!). I have had some really awesome lecturers throughout my degree. I would have to say that I would invite my two favourite lecturers around for some book talk. Plus a few fabulous authors. Perhaps M. J. Hyland and Jeffrey Eugenides would do the trick? Although it would be hard to narrow the author selection down! Wanna come too? I love your new tea set. It’s just what you needed. x
