Happy Rex Manning day, folks!
I’ve celebrated it (accidentally but what impeccable timing) by recording a Sweet Teen Club podcast episode on Empire Records and I will at least call someone “mon amour” before the day is through. I may also bring someone their lunch, that’s undecided.
April 8 is the day Rex Manning comes to do an in-store signing at Empire Records, and shit goes down. People need to tell other people they’re in love with them by 1.37pm, people get in trouble for gambling all the shop’s money away, people get arrested (twice), people get in awkard sexual encounters, others actually follow through, and there’s some pot-brownie-eating and total head shaving (unrelated incidents).
There’s also plenty of 90s fashion, snappy dialogue, Liv Tyler doing stuff, and a 90s alternative B-sides soundtrack WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE.
So Happy Rex Manning Day to all of us who just can’t leave Empire Records behind.
You can also totally take the Which Empire Records Character Are You Buzzfeed quiz, which I fully recommend you do, just for shits and giggles.
I, of course, was:
DAY MADE.
Who did you get? you totally have to tell me, in the comments or on Facebook here.
But it’s back to work for me now, getting the weekly newsletter sorted (if you haven’t signed up yet, you totally should!) and a few other bits and pieces before the weekend takes hold. Because:

“What’s with you today?”
“What’s with today, today?”
I was totally Empire Records obsessed! Renee Zellweger has never been as cool as when she sung on top of that roof.
“damn the man, save the empire!”

You know, I totally agree! she was amazing in this movie and I think it’s one of her best. Also Lucas is my total favourite, what a legend!

It won’t let me share it here but I am Joe. I could do worse. Resident mum of the group, love classics & might have been born in the wrong decade. Not far off, Buzzfeed…
Stacey says
Ha I love Joe, if I’m ever as calm and kickass as him I’ll be happy!
Karin @ Calm to Conniption says
Oh my favourite! I wish my butt looked as perky as Renee’s in just an apron! And Liv, oh Liv I love you!
!! Just a couple more for good measure. Off to take that quiz!
Stacey says
Liv was so good in it!

You’ll probably think less of me but I haven’t seen it. I googled it just to make sure and yeah… nup. But in my defence it came out in 1995 and I had babies in 89, 91, 93, 95 and 96 so I was probably in a zombie state. I’ve completely lost any memory of music in that time frame too. We’ll put it on our list of illegal downloads xxx
Stacey says
Ha I understand that, I haven’t seen anything ever for the last 5 years.
