Things have been Average Central around here, which is really very soothing, thanks. There’s something to be said for a couple of weeks of quiet routine, nothing much to rock the boat. A chance to coast for a sec.
Work saw me headed up to Eltham for a bit, and while I was there I popped into the Combined Churches Op Shop at St Margaret’s Anglican Church for a mosey around. Price points were pleasing, I didn’t see much for more than $2, and some linens were 50c. and here I was thinking oppy prices like these had well and truly died out! Melbourne has killed me what with its $17 for a secondhand jumper situation.
Those socks gave me somewhat of a headspin, I think I may have worn this brand when I was a kid, the packaging is so familiar. I’d have bought them (and those linens above) if I had any cash on me – which I never do.
Small cat is getting bigger by the day, and still as sweet as ever. We all fawn over her, picking her up and ferrying her about. The voice that comes out of my mouth when I speak to her is reprehensible. I should be shot. But I can’t help it she’s SO FRIGGING CUTE.
Speaking of so frigging cute, check these three out. They were snuggled up on my lap reading Girl Stuff by Kaz Cooke. Because apparently Biggie is a pre-teen now (wot), and the wheels of change are in motion. Emotions are beginning to run high here at VMHQ, and my hitherto best BFF daughters are now scrapping multiple times a day with a volume to rival the nearby airport.
I’m wondering if now we’ll have to put them in separate bedrooms, just so everyone has a solo space to go if they need to slam a door and sit in peace for a bit. I didn’t realise we’d get to this point (a. preteens and b. separate rooms) so quickly and I’m a bit taken aback, to be honest.
I went to an information night at school recently to find out more about the Body Safety program that will be provided to the students over the next few weeks. It’s basically sex ed but in a modern, inclusive format. I was so blown away by the level of diversity and care they take in their program. I’m so stoked this is what the girls will be learning in these really pivotal years, and I’m glad I went to find out more so I can continue the conversations at home. They recommended Girl Stuff for Bigs and so I bought it on the spot. It seems like a very thorough but friendly (and age-appropriate) introduction to the freight train she’s about to board.
LORD HELP ME.
Mother’s Day was quiet and nice, and I did not very much at all. We had a fancy lunch at home and then the kids did what they always do on a weekend – amuse themselves. Which meant I sat on the couch and read alllll day long. Then I had a bath and went to bed. it was AWESOME.
Oh and I also got a drier, which I am stoked about. It was gonna be one hell of a winter without one!
And Loving Earth sent me some lovely chocolates for the special day, and you’ll be pleased to know I’ve rolled most of the mint and made a good start on the salted caramel already.
I love them, they’ve been so kind to me over the years. The company I mean, not these particular chocolate boxes.
I bought myself a mother’s day present because I’ve had my eye on this bad boy for months now and figured this was a fantastic time to snap it up.
A vintage, Australian-made, rare collectible Robur tea strainer from eBay arrived in my hot little hand the Friday before. Back in the day there would have been a tea caddy spoon as well, which of course now I’ll have to keep an eye out for.
You need a close up? Sure! Of course!
Isn’t she sweet? I’ve been muddling along using a tea ball infuser as a strainer for YEARS so I’m actually proper stoked with this. It was made long before I was born, and while it wasn’t cheap to buy, it will last me my whole life and then some.
And yesterday I went to my favourite myotherapist/all round pummel me into wellness friend yesterday for some work on my neck and shoulders (hashtag laptop life) only to make a new friend! Akira is adorable and has huge paws. I like her a lot.
Other than that, the fundraising/events side of school life is taking up a lot of my brain space (did I mention I’m now chair of the committee? I’m now chair of the committee), I’ve been tappity-tapping away at work deadlines, Bigs has been swimming every day which means I have to remember all sorts of random things – oh and she got her ears pierced and is loving herself sick – I applied for a new job, I’ve still been nannying (and the baby still self-settles I still can’t believe it), we’ve had kid birthday parties to attend, a glam rock costume to source, I’ve been making lots of delicious things for The Organic Place, and Bevvo and I recorded a new podcast episode for baby Archieharrisonmountbattenwindsor, but more on that later. It’s time for school pickup.
what’s been happening round your way?

They amuse themselves? Theres no mumma play with meeeeeeeeee? I know I will miss it one day but for now it would be nice to be able to sit for 5 minutes without having to read 53 books or pretend to eat copious amounts of wooden food, Yay for a drier our one is sadly dying a slow death so we have washing for miles, Not much has been happening here apart from mine and the small humans birthday (she was more excited about going to her friends birthday party than her own birthday) but she was throughly spoilt and we had cake for days

The benefit of having two, I guess! I can’t cope with the endless pretend eating play haha

I’m quite new to your blog and just popping in to say how much I enjoyed this post. Im not sure what it says about me but I quite enjoy reading about the gentle everyday stuff. Is there a link to Loving Earth because I can think of someone I love Who would be thrilled to receive a pack of those chocs.
Stacey says
Oh thank you! I really appreciate these kinds of comments. I love writing about the little everyday mundanities and often its these types of posts I love to read. Real people, real lives and extreme domesticity are my jam.
You can find Loving Earth here (they do so much more than chocolate!) https://lovingearth.net/ and I’ll pop them in the post too.
Thank you again, both for stopping by and and for taking the time to chat x
