After this project was finished, I held it up and joked to my husband “do you like the lovely wreath I made?”
I’d like to say it was solely undertaken by my toddlers, but sadly it was not. One of them started eating the glue about four seconds in, and was dispatched with a bunch of pompoms to amuse herself with.
The other only wanted to spread the glue on the cardboard. I think she stuck on maybe two of the squares of coloured paper and one pompom. She spent the rest of the time painting her fingers with the glue. Never mind! I had a good time.
All I did was cut out a large ring from green cardboard. I made available some Christmas shapes that we coloured in the day before (from this Kidspot printable), some coloured paper squares, some balled-up crepe paper, some red and white pompoms, and my ever-present glitter. (I sprayed the finished product with clear gloss and sprinkled it on).
So for those of you looking for something different to do with your younger toddlers, you might like to try this. I thought at least one of them would enjoy sticking on the random bits, but hey, motherhood is full of surprises, no?
I hope your kids enjoy the glue as much as mine did.
Merry Christmas!

I’m the only one that counts, right?! 😉

That looks great! I made similar wreaths with Joey Scouts this week, using a paper plate with the centre cut out as the ring and packing peanuts (from online Christmas shopping deliveries) made great snow – just to throw some more ideas into the mix. The Joeys are aged 6-8 and they enjoyed it to, so it’s got appeal across quite an age range!

I bet they could sit still longer than 45 seconds! Love the packing peanuts idea.

That’s how craft goes in my madhouse too!! At least we try, right? And it gives them lots of practice packing up when mummy chucks a tantrum….

Glad I’m not the only one! I go through stages of crafting with the kids…we go to Spotlight, come home and for like a week I’m all “Let’s do ALL OF THE CRAFT” and then at the end of the week I’m all “Let us never speak of this again.”

How I love a blog that tells it like it is in the never-predictable, always-surprising world of motherhood! I was starting to think I was the only wanna-be crafting mama with toddlers not sharing said enthusiasm. So thanks for sharing this story. Gave me a giggle and useful perspective.

Craft is super-fun! Good, wholesome, crafty fun! Except with kids. Kids kill wholesome fun dead.
For this reason, I am NOT looking for a craft activity to share with the kids this Chrismas. But I think your wreath is swell! xx

We all know my craft intentions are totally for my own enjoyment! If only someone could baby-sit the kids…

Bluey hated art and craft. It’s only been since last year I can get him to sit and do activities because of occasions and even then I need to keep it toa minimum. Greenie however doesn’t mind a bit of craft, he will sit for a lot longer than his brother. You might find this once Pepper is a bit older. Honestly I used to love painting my hand with glue and peeling it all off once it dried so I can’t really blame Abby.
Veggie Mama says
haha I did too, so I totally encouraged her haha. Maybe it might keep her quiet…

Ah this is super cute! We attempted a wreath this year, too, but this looks like more fun (all the pom-poms!!) for the kids, and less work for me. Will be filing away for 11 1/2 months time… 😉

haha that’s exactly what Pinterest is for!
