Been a while since one of these, eh? Since April, anyway. Somehow the first six months of this year was some kind of Mario Bros green tunnel time warp and shit I was supposed to do already just did not get done.
I did, however, finally get around to producing the last couple of Sweet Teen Club episodes recorded last year – yesterday’s effort was Stuff That Was OK in the 90s That is Absolutely Not OK Now, and there’ll now be one every Friday. I have missed it greatly.
We’re also recording next weekend, so prepare for a steady stream of nostalgic pop culture once again. As always, we’re taking idea submissions, so if you’ve thought of a topic you’d love us to cover, get at us!
What else have I been doing? HEAPS OF STUFF.
Currently reading both The Stand and Playing Beatie Bow, for reasons which will make themselves clear in due course. Playing Beatie Bow terrified me as a small child, and I wanted to see if it still did. What I have noticed is that it’s brilliant.
Also: From a Buick 8, The Shining, Limoncello and Lemon Water, On Writing, Bridget Jones’s Diary, Sweet Valley High Book #12 When Love Dies, and a bunch of other random stuff.
I also started the dream book (!) and reading back over it while I type it up has been… interesting. Fun and basically terrifying. I wonder what’s going to happen to it. I hope it sees the light of day.
There have been some “healthy” experiments (thumbs down) and friands, which I have not made before but should definitely make more of because I think they’re great.
I’ve been stuck in such a rut for dinners lately, it’s been v. grim.
I started The Handmaid’s Tale. I’m probably going to need a week to recover before I attempt Episode 2.
Was absolutely destroyed by Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy. Not a tissue left in the house.
I finished Under the Dome. I’m not sure how I feel about any of it… am reserving my judgement until I process.
The whole first season of Degrassi High was done in a day and damn it’s so good. Looking forward to getting through the other seasons so we can do an STC episode. So drama! Much angst.
Netflix-wise, I’ve watched S1 of Suits; What the Health, Live and Let Live, Food Choices, and In Defense of Food.
Now that I’m Dome-less, I’m wondering what else to watch… Lunchbox tells me S1 of Fargo. So does our lord and saviour, Stephen King. I guess that’s my mind made up then!
I manage to catch the shipping forecast every day and it pleases me greatly. Felt vindicated a couple of weeks ago when The Telegraph ran the article “Why everyone loves the shipping forecast“. IT’S TOTALLY A THING, OK?!
A lot of The Cars, and Madness on vinyl. So good.
For reasons I can’t actually pinpoint, I took most of my garments out of my closet and left only a handful to see how few I could actually live with. It has been extraordinarily easy to recycle the same few things. I wish it cut down on the laundry but no, that’s still kicking my arse as usual.
