Earlier this year, during the longest winter of my life, we escaped on our 10-year anniversary to beautiful Bali and its perfect weather.
I had been craving a tropical holiday where I did absolutely nothing but sit in the sun, read, eat good food and have a cocktail in the pool. And that’s exactly what I did!
The villa we stayed in is outstanding – beautifully designed with three bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms, huge living area and 25m infinity pool right on the edge of a traditional Balinese village in Kediri, away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas (but still only 45 minutes away from Seminyak so if the shopping urge strikes, you’re not too far).
We relaxed in total luxury, waking every day to the roosters and the lush green views of the jungle all around.
Terry, the architect and designer, specialised in cultural heritage and it’s obvious throughout the property with traditional touches here and there. He built an incredible villa for his family.
Oh yeah – and its own waterfall (which you get to view from the shower!)The Villa manager, Yanti, is just an absolute doll. She looked after every single little thing we could have wanted while we were there – breakfast on the terrace is included but we paid extra and she cooked us outrageous vegetarian (mostly vegan, come to think of it) feasts for every other meal every day.
She took us places with the driver as he didn’t speak much English, she took care of ordering us massages in the purpose-built spa room onsite, changing our money, delivering drinks, tour guiding us through the places we wanted to go and that she thought we would love… I just cannot fault her. Always available but never intrusive, she is the perfect person to welcome you on your stay at the Villa (she even packed us off with a little gift for our girls and begged us to bring them next time!).
To be fair, she actually spoiled us rotten. I miss her!We wandered the surrounding streets at sunset, watching Balinese village life in real time. The kites floated peacefully over the local rice paddies, kids were on bikes everywhere, dogs and chickens greeted us as we strolled, and the sights, sounds and smells of such an amazing (and sometimes confusing) culture greeted us at every turn. As I look outside at the grey rain today I wouldn’t mind a bit of this right now!
You can hire the entire villa (which would fit several families comfortably) or one room only, depending on your needs. You get access to the whole villa (except for the main kitchen) and it’s plenty big enough to hang out in private even if there are others staying.
Transfers to and from the airport are included in the price, and a day rate (which we found quite reasonable) is available for Ketut the driver to take you wherever you want to go. There is plenty of information available in the rooms about local restaurants, places to shop, spa treatments and cultural areas to see in Bali.
You can find more information at airbnb – Kate will look after you and she’s basically the nicest person on Earth. If you’re looking for a romantic holiday or a great place to take the family, you’re in good hands. Say hi to Yanti for me!
*We stayed as guests of Villa Watu Sangging, but paid for all extras and a grateful tip at the end of our time there.

Big Bali lover, only came on board in last three years, been twice to Ubud to a little place called LalaLili House if anyone is interested, in the hills and private but access to all things Ubud if you desire. A bit like what you’ve described of this magnificent villa.
Oh the Balinese are so beautiful and generous. The food, the weather, the green lushness and the food again…
I am bookmarking this for future reference, thank you

This looks so kick-ass – the pool, the food, the room! (is it weird that I really love that massive artwork over the bed…don’t answer that)
