As much as I love baking, I’m not very good at eating the finished product. I had a violent sweet tooth with both pregnancies that has only abated now, so for a while there I was experimenting with making healthier versions of cookies and muffins, but now I’m swarming straight back to savoury and I couldn’t be happier. I feel almost back to normal!
Wholemeal cheese crackers
I love me a good cracker, and one of the easiest recipes ever is this Easy Whole Wheat Cheddar Crackers recipe from Weelicious. Catherine thinks very much the same way I do with kiddo food – fine with treats every now and then, but home-made stuff mostly makes an appearance on our tables. She has one of the best collections of baby + toddler food I’ve ever seen! I always find her inspiring, and most of her recipes go straight to my file on Evernote. (Do you have Evernote? It is RAD. I follow a lot of blogs by email and I forward their recipe posts straight to Evernote, which is a searchable database of whatever you want. Not sponsored, just awesome.)
I used some great little bento cutters I got on my last trip to Tokyo. I thought stars would be cute! The original recipe is an alternative to goldfish crackers, so fairly tiny. And while it’s a drag to cut out so many teeny bits of dough, the end result is way worth it. You can of course make them to whatever size you like. I did end up making some plain squares with sesame seeds sprinkled on top too. We ate them like a pack of starved cheddar-cracker-scoffing wolves.
I made these without the tablespoon of saltless seasoning, and they were still great. And if you’re keen on making them gluten and grain free, my homie Owletmama has a coconut-flour version that is the bomb. I can vouch for both!
Cheese-hater ate them. Heh.
{PS if you’re into that sort of thing, you can now pin stuff straight from my images – just roll your mouse over!}

Awesome, I have searched and searched for any easy cracker recipe and just couldn’t find one. Perfect timing too – I am having a little morning tea tomorrow with a few of Master 4’s friends for his birthday. Thanks!

Yummo, we’ve just spent this rainy afternoon making these. We used coconut flour and they have a lovely slightly chewy texture. We used up some cheeses we had left over from a big family lunch. Thanks for the inspiration Stacey.

Hi Stacey – when it says whole wheat flour – can I assume it means wholemeal plain flour? I want to try them for my boy is a little bit older than Smalls. Cheers. Tina
